Truck Accident

A woman died on the spot after a gas tanker truck accident in Cuttack district of Odisha on Friday. The incident took place on the Manguli Chhaka fly over on National Highway 16 coming under the jurisdiction of Tangi Police Station.

It has been alleged that the woman who died in the accident was hit by a vehicle while she was trying to cross the road from the overbridge to Choudwar. The gas tanker which was on its way to Cuttack-Chandikhol road, overturned and killed the woman on the spot after running over her.

The tanker driver, however, abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the scene, much to the anger of locals. This made residents of the area to protest, demanding immediate arrest of the driver and compensation of the deceased’s family.

In a similar incident the same day, a Mo Bus hit a vegetable trader near Cuttack’s Malachandia Chowk. The trader, who was on his Luna moped to sell vegetables and ended up being hit by the bus on the way, suffered serious injuries. He has since been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

This has been compounded by the recent spate of Mo Bus accidents which has greatly annoyed people in the area, something they say is due to reckless driving. Some people have also suggested that, to reduce the incidence of such accidents, certain measures should be taken to enhance road safety.

The police have launched investigations into both accidents as people take to the streets to protest and demand justice and better traffic control in the area.
