Three youths died in a road accident near the Tankapani Sai Temple under Badagada police station limits here in the wee hours of Tuesday. The mishap took place when a three-occupant motorcycle coming with full speed hit a Tata Harrier car, moving from Jagatsinghpur to Puri via Rasulgarh.
Reports said the motorcycle was on the wrong side of the road when the accident took place. The impact was so huge that the motorcycle caught fire and was completely charred while leaving a large portion of the car mangled. All three motorcycle passengers died on the spot, said officials from the Commissionerate Police.
Preliminary investigation reveals a head-on collision between the motorcycle and the oncoming car. The Badagada police have detained the driver of the Tata Harrier and launched a probe to find out the exact cause of the accident.
The police have identified one of the deceased and informed his family members at Balugaon, though all three were reportedly residents of GGP Colony in Bhubaneswar. The bodies of the victims have been shifted to Capital Hospital, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted once their families arrive.
Police are yet to ascertain the families of the other two victims. Police have not divulged any details concerning the accident since it is under investigation.
