Domestic help in Odisha has been arrested in a disturbing case involving criminal intimidation and inappropriate conduct toward a house owner’s wife and her minor daughter. The accused, Saroj Kumar Behera, a resident of Jajpur district, was arrested on Sunday after the victim filed a formal complaint at Badagada police station the previous day.
According to the FIR, Saroj had been working in the household for some time when he allegedly captured inappropriate photos and videos of the complainant and her daughter without their consent. He then used this material to intimidate them, threatening to release the content if they did not comply with his demands.
Police say the accused used this tactic to repeatedly harass and coerce both victims over a period of several weeks. During interrogation, Saroj admitted to his actions. Authorities also discovered that he was already facing a separate case registered at Jajpur police station.
Based on the investigation, Saroj has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. These charges reflect the serious nature of the offenses, particularly considering the involvement of a minor.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that both the woman and her daughter are receiving necessary support and protection. The case has sparked public concern about the need for stricter screening and background checks for household workers.
