Woman dies incident in Odisha turned into a shocking twist when an 86-year-old woman, presumed dead, was discovered alive moments before her cremation in Puri. Identified as P Lakshmi from Andhra Pradesh, she was visiting her son-in-law’s house in Ganjam district when her health deteriorated. After receiving treatment at a local hospital, doctors declared her dead, and her family began preparations for her final rites.
Her body was transported to Puri’s Swargadwar crematorium, where relatives and priests were preparing for the cremation rituals. To everyone’s surprise, a security guard noticed subtle movements. On closer examination, the family realized she was still breathing. The cremation was halted instantly, and Lakshmi was rushed to Puri Medical College and Hospital.
Doctors confirmed that Lakshmi was alive but in a critical condition. While her heart and kidneys were functioning, her brain showed minimal response. Family members expressed disbelief, saying they had mistaken her lack of signs of breathing as death.
Crematorium staff explained that without an official death certificate, the process could not proceed. This unexpected turn of events saved her life, leaving the community stunned and raising questions about medical confirmation of death.
